Following - A new Gadget

I'd rather lead, than follow, but this is 'new' and I'll try anything, twice.

Blogger is releasing this new Gadget, called 'Followers', and it should be available to all within a short time. (I call it 'Following', but that's just me)

As I am lucky enough to have it, I join many others, writing it up - which is what Bloggers should do, when they 'learn' something new, or 'try' something new. Let us all know!

So, what is 'Following'? Well, I'll know more as the days progress, but, for now, suffice to say that it's a great way to get up-to-date Feeds from the Blogs you love to follow, and let those Bloggers know that you do! It's simple and easy to install, get working, and 'manage'. It's simply a Blogger Gadget - located on the "Add a Gadget" option from your Layout screen. Click on it, and away you go!

This is what it will look like in your sidebar...

The number of your Profile Pictures/Followers will increase as your Readers become aware of this option, and/or choose to click on the "Follow This Blog" button. They can choose to be 'Public' or 'Anonymously', and YOU can also 'Block' any you don't want, from participating.

Once you add the Following gadget, your Dashboard will reflect the change in a number of ways. Firstly, you'll see it noted near the Blog Listing ...

and, Secondly, you'll notice changes at the bottom of your Dashboard. This will show all the Blogs you follow, and the Feeds gathered from those Blogs, or, your Google reader subscriptions. You can use this to 'Add' more Blogs to follow, or, 'Manage' what you already have.

Adding more Blog URLs couldn't be easier. It's basically, a 'Blogger Two-step' ...

Then, the Blog will appear on your 'Reading List', and you can click on the 'Blog Title' of the Blog you want to read, or choose to see them all. You can also click on the Blog and 'go there'! You can also follow through your Google Reader. Great, eh?

You can also access Blogger Buzz and Blogs of Note, and there's "Other Stuff" below that.

Google Reader

The 'Manage' option is just that - a way for you to keep track of what you want on the 'Following Reading List'.

I like this next feature, too. It appears at the bottom of your Profile...

Enjoy it - and let your Friends, or the owners of Blogs you visit, and 'follow', know that you do.

Robert-

As you have availed yourself to helping others with past Blogger issues, I wanted to run my problem by you to see if you had any suggestions as to how I can resolve it.

My blog shows up fine in all browsers except any version of IE.

1. It is not centered to the page
2. The text font is different
3. The main sidebar background color is different
4. There is no spacing between the two widgets in my sidebar.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim
I think I just answered your question, in the Groups, but anyway, I've got IE on my computer, naturally, and rarely use it. I prefer Firefox. Be that as it may, I feel that your problem may result from 'something' on your Blog, exceeding IE's tolerances. IE has a narrower main - see: this Webcredible article... http://www.webcredible.co.uk/user-friendly-resources/css/internet-explorer.shtml

It may, or may not be the reason, but I am stumped if it isn't.
That's all I can suggest, I'm afraid, short of getting a different template - a wider template.

Bob-

Thank you for the link and advice. That 'something' can only be the gadgets, however, I did remove them just to see if that was the causing the glitch, but the problem still exist.

Death to Microsoft.

Hi Chandru
Following may have restrictions for application in India. I believe it did have some Language option problems some time ago. I have been off the air for a few months, so I am not up to date on things. Try asking about it in the Google Blogger Help group.
Good luck.
